For more than a decade, the Ford Community Center at the Mercado in Southwest Detroit served as a testament to the power of community. The center brought nonprofit partners together under one roof to offer critical services and programs to residents, including a client choice food pantry, legal assistance, income tax preparation, education and job initiatives, cultural celebrations and wellness activities.

The Mercado services closed in March 2024, and this network of nonprofit partners have since adopted a distributed service model, underscoring their commitment to meet the evolving needs of the Southwest neighborhood.
